Do I have to upgrade?

OK...back to my original concern.  Do have to upgrade...HAVE TO...if I am a current user of 2009 Premier?  If so, when does this have to be done by?  If I chose not to upgrade....what functions specifically would I lose the use of?  Thanks so much to all who have the helpful answers!

  • avocadodave.....you should start your own question.  This thread was old and your question seems a little different.  And we need a lot more details.  Like which version are you using and computer os and exactly what are you doing or trying to do?

What Quicken 2009 services will be discontinued on April 27, 2012?
The following services to Quicken 2009 for Windows were discontinued on April 30, 2012:
•Online bill pay
•Downloading financial data from your bank, credit union, credit card, brokerage, 401(k) or mutual fund accounts
•Downloading stock quotes, news headlines and other financial information into Quicken
•Uploading portfolio information from Quicken to Quicken.com

Do have to upgrade...HAVE TO...if I am a current user of 2009 Premier? NO.

You can continue to use your Quicken 2009 as long as you want.

    Burt925 .............  I was a beta tester of Quicken 2012 and am now using Quicken Deluxe 2012. It is doing the job for me.  I have had few issues with Quicken 2012 but can tell you I am very Quicken literate lets say, so I have managed to lets say side step / fix issues.  I sincerely suggest that you upgrade to Quicken 2011.  I mentioned this in my earlier post.  Can tell you many are disenchanted with Quicken 2012 and have been having issues with same.  Many are very displeased with the budgeting feature in 2012 in general let alone all the problems with same.  Yes, move to 2011.  You can find  Quicken 2011 at very reasonable prices at amazon.com.  http://www.amazon.com/Quicken-Premier-2011-Old-Version/dp/B003YJ78AE/ref=sr_1_sc_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1332963714&sr=8-2-spell

      Burt925 ...........  If you do not do online with Quicken 2009 (One Step Updates, etc.) and you never go to your financial intuitions website/your account and download data into Quicken 2009  .. (Quicken 2009 will not be able to do this past April 30, 2012) ...then you will be not be impacted in that regard by failing to upgrade Quicken 2009.  What you will be faced with though is loss of Intuit live support if you need it for Quicken 2009.  Also, down the road / in a few years when you do want to upgrade Quicken you will have many hurdles to deal with not even including the data file set issues.  Just one example....... Intuit does not recommend any versions older then Quicken 2010 to be used on a Windows 7 computer. Will you one day need a new computer .. sure you will,  and it will have Windows 7 or the upcoming Windows 8.  Are you getting the picture... reality is you really should upgrade.  Were I you, I would upgrade to Quicken 2011 asap and pass on Quicken 2012.

As for me, I am knowledgeable enough, wise enough to upgrade my financial software. I am also wise enough to research in regard to what version to upgrade to / to avoid a version that is say having issues. In your case you could have upgraded to Quicken 2011 versus 2012.

      I suggest that you do some lets say homework and learn why it is paramount to use current financial software, especially if connecting to your financial institution(s).

      Food for thought............ your financial institution(s) is constantly upgrading security and such at their website. Intuit and the financial institutions work hard, (often together) are constantly redoing, changing, advancing with new ideas and methods. You though, want to be in lets say a time warp and use outdated software that does not benefit from the very beneficial changes that the FI's and Intuit have brought into play.. Really not a wise move on your part. You should be ranting thanks to Intuit for having a discontinuation policy that pushes very foolish users like yourself into doing what is best for them..."
