I have Quicken 2000 on a new computer with Vista Home Premium. I cannot print to my Canon MP160 printer, even though Quicken lets me select the printer, and I can print from other programs. Error message is "Could not open printer. Check your printer selection." Any helpful ideas? Do I have to go back to my Win98 computer for Quicken?
I just installed Quicken Basic 2007 on a new PC with Vista Ultimate. I had new Vista drivers downloaded from HP before installing my HP Photosmart printer. When I tried to print Tax Summaries, the printer started up, fed the paper, and stopped. The print queue showed the document as printed but nothing appeared on the paper.I called Tech Support and they told me to reinstall the print drivers. I refuse to do that since the printer works with all other applications installed on my PC.
I'm in the same boat as many others - my XP-based computer died, so I bought a new laptop with Vista. Quicken 2000 runs on it, but I cannot print - I get this message: "Intuit Printing Library. Could not open printer. Check your printer selection."The printer selection is correct_ I see it in the first print window that opens up in Quicken. And other programs print just fine.Has anyone been able to print from Vista?Do Quicken support folks read these forums and offer solutions? Thanks!

I also have problems with printing. Installed Quicken 2007 Home and Business on 32 bit Vista and everything worked fine with printing. Installed 64 bit Vista on a separate newly formatted hard drive and then installed Quicken 2007 Home and Business. Printing to two separate printers (HP PSC 1210 and HP Photosmart 8150) does not work. Printing from other programs works like a charm. With check printing, the job goes into the printer queue and stays there with a "spooling" status. The only way to delete the job is to reboot. And yes, I have changed the spooling option in the printer options. For reports, the job immediately disappears from the print queue and does not print. (The HP Photosmart 8150 printer will grab the page and advance it to the top of the page and will not print.) The Quicken PDF writer will work with check printing but when you try to print a report, and select "save as", the file simply disappears. I have tried everything imaginable with technical support, including deleting wpr.dat file, emulating other printers, deleting all printers, reinstalling quicken (to both the default directory and C:), and creating a new test file. Any suggestions? I have to believe that other people are having this same issue.
I have a new HP Laptop with Vista Home Premium and a new Photosmart C6180 network printer. Both are attached to my wireless home network. I had the same problem trying to print Quicken Reports. It would start printing page and would eject page before it was fully printed. Printing a test page from the HP toolbox on the Vista PC also would not work. All other programs on Vista PC printed fine. Quicken reports also printed fine when using a WIN XP Pro SP2 Desktop PC on the same network. Therefore it is not a Quicken problem, but a problem with the HP printer drivers for Vista PC's. I contacted HP support via interactive chat and we were able to implement a work around by installing alternate print drivers which are available in Vista (nothing to download). The instructions can be found via this linkhttp://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/genericDocument?lc=en&cc=us&docname=c00808478&dlc=en&lang=en&printable=yes&encodeUrl=true&I had to install the drivers for the DeskJet 990c. My printer and PC's commumicate over a wireless network via a router, so I ignored the instructions about connecting the printer to the PC with a USB cable. After you follow step 1 and 2 to install the print drivers, do the following to associate the new printer icon on the PC with the wireless Photosmart Printer.Click Start/Printers/right click on new printer (Deskjet 990c for me) to open properties page/click on ports tab/scroll down the list of ports and select the port that matches the IP address of the Photosmart Printer/click apply. The printer needs to be attached to your wireless network and turned on when you do this step.Once this is done, select this printer when you print Quicken reports and they will print out fine. Select the Photosmart printer when printing from other programs.Hopefully HP will come out with driver updates in the near future to address this issue on Vista PC.Also, don't change the name of the alternate printer. I renamed mine to "Deskjet 990c - Use with Quicken". After I did that, Quicken kept producing error "Unable to verify active printer at the system level",aytime I tried to perform action requiring the printe.Hope all this help everyone with this problem.

I still have XP and an HP Photosmart C7280 All In One printer. I recently upgraded to Quicken Home & Business and my now my printer will only print 'Help' files in Quicken. It will NOT print reports or registers any longer. I wonder if the problem is with Quicken Home & Business and not the operating systems at all.Very frustrating!!

Would be no problem if they weren't telling everyone that it will work when they know that it won't. The problem that I have and probably hundreds more is that when you try to print, the printer will go through the motions up to the point of printing and will show it is printing however you can open active printers or printer folder and the job won't be there. It is sending 0 pages to the printer. A spooling problem that should be easy for them to fix but like I said why should they.

Have new PC- Dell Inspiron 1720. Came with Vista Home Premier. Bought new Printer to ensure print capability with Vista - HP C7280 All-in-one. Loaded all my XP programs just fine , including Quicken Premier. All programs print fine EXCEPT Quicken Premier 2007. Can't print Checks or reports. Quicken appears to be the problem based on everything else printing. If I copy print ready checks to Iomega drive and then to an XP machine the to same printer they print fine. Another indicator that Quicken is the problem. Been using Quicken well over 10 years. Can't keep doing this. From all other complaints Quicken doesn't seem to be doing much about it. If Intuit is then let us know. Otherwise may have to find a new financial progran.
This is what I did to get quicken 2008 to print register, forms etc. Didn't try Checks as I don't use that function. I have a HP Officejet 7310 all in one. I presently have it home networked but it also worked with USB Cable. I tried Emulating several different printers and got mixed results. I ended up adding Hpdeskjet 990c and re-booted and the printer works ok for the applications that I use it for. Do not set the added printer to default printer. When print is selected just point to the 990c or whatever printer that you find that will work. This may save someone with the 7310 all in one some time. Thanks: Bob
I received the same also probably thru a representative from Bangladesh or India (!!). From my experience, this is simply NOT TRUE. IN WIN XP, QUICKEN DOES PRINT FROM NETWORK PRINTERS. I have Windows XP and 2 printers:- A Samsung printer connected thru the parallel port of my router:so it is a networked printer.- An HP C7100 Network Color Printer Both work very well with Quicken 2002 and with Quicken 2008.(I know nothing about the situation in Vista though!).To all whose with printing problems in Quicken, may I suggest to try this simple solution (found here on the Forum) that worked for me:? Please close Quicken program.? Click on Start menu > My Computer (from the Windows taskbar). ? Go to the folder located at Local disk C:Documents and Settings>>Username>>Application Data>>Intuit>>Quicken>>Config ? Please make sure - click on Tools >> Folder Options >> select View >> click on Show all hidden files and folders and uncheck ?Hide extensions for known file types?. ? Now Right click the wpr.dat file and select Rename.? Enter wpr.old for the new file name and press Enter. ? Open Quicken and print.Note: The wpr.dat file contains your printer setup information for Quicken. Renaming this file will erase your printer settings. If you have customized fonts or other printing options you will need to configure Quicken again.
Thanks for the workaround but, we Q2008 using Vista have the no-print problem (my XP computer has no problem). Why Intuit doesn't yet have a resolution is a mystery to me. They have thousands of users that are unhappy. Very poor marketing. But then I never did get a response from the Intuit CEO or any of his staff. He's leaving soon with a $6.2 million parachute presumably for thr great job he's done (for himself).
Well my Vista notebook (wireless) w/premier 2008 could pick the port and start the printing whereupon the paper would move but the process would stop dead and I had to remove the sheet. With my new 7280 it has improved....... the paper moves into the printer to start printing but jams and I have to try and retreive it w/o leaving some behind to further jam it. Progress of a sort. Will they ever fix it?
In my version of Q I can only print when I am logged in as administrator. I have a stand alone computer loaded with Vista Ultimate 64 bit.I run my daily tasks as a standard user. Even though I run Quicken as an administrator in WinXP compatibility mode, still it will not print when I am logged in as standard user. I have to log on to admin account and it works perfectly. This is somewhat inconvenient, but it works for me!
I found a solution that worked for my 7310 in another posting. Search for the WPR dat file (it is in a hidden directory). Rename it WPR.old and restart Quicken.I am using XP and couldn't print checks. This solved the problem so far.
I'm having the same problem too. I just purchased a new hp with windows vista and have an hp c7280 all-in-one printer_ now i cant print checks or anything from quicken 2008 deluxe. if this keeps up, i'll have to consider switching to ms money, even tho' i've been using quicken since it first came out. i have to be able to print my checks.
I don't have a problem printing anything until I get to my quicken program. I get the following message problems communicating to printer, the specified resource name cannot be found in the image file. I have a dell all in one 926. I have un-installed both the printer and quicken, nothing helps. I have used quicken for years with no problems until now. Is their a solution?
Bought a new Dell and a new office, hooked it up to the Canon Image 861 and will not print a check. I take it from the list of complaints that it isn't going to print. Is there anyone out there that has purchased the 2008? Does it print? My copier is not connected to anyone else's pc, only mine. thanks
Setup is HP Pavilion 9XXX, HP Deskjet 72XX, wireless network printing, Microsoft Vista, Quicken Deluxe 2008. All new set up. Only print about 2 checks a month. My options were to either figure this out or hand write my checks. I ended up originally printing to a PDF file just to get the checks written. Then I preceded the evening figuring this out. Following what SRAAB2453 wrote on 3/23/07 in this thread fixed my problem. Printed checks within minutes of following his instructions. The drivers I installed and work was for the Deskjet 450. This driver worked to get Quicken to print usig my Deskjet 7280. Until there is a fix, this worked for me. By the way, the 7280 prints with everything else. I wasn't about to begin deleting and reinstalling software.Good luck!
Am not a techie - but in a typical Vista config you would go to:Desktop - [your personal folder] - AppData - Roaming - Intuit - Quicken - Config - WPR.DATGood luck - and I am hoping that some plaintiff's lawyer is going to sue Intuit into submission on this maddening defect....
I'm using WinXP Pro and I can't print anything. It finds my printer on NE0? I'm on USB? If I try to go to the Printer properties under Q it says it can't and I should re-install the printer?I did have 2007 installed and it worked fine?Confused...
Can't find the letter from the person that helped me so will tell you what worked for me. I think the solution is different for every combination of setups that could exist. I have a wireless setup with an HP 6180 and Toshiba Satellite lap top with Vista Home Premium. Couldn't print a thing from Quicken Premier 2008(all other programs printed fine.) I installed the drivers for the DeskJet 990c. Now everything works. I am able to print checks and got them alligned properly along with reports. So I hope this will help some others with this problem. All of my other programs are also printing fine from this driver.I had been working on this for a week. 3 1/2 hours on the phone with Quicken (India), then called Toshiba and was about to call HP when I found the letter suggesting this fix on this site.Hope this helps some of you.etathome
Wherever the problem lies, we should go to Quicken ..." Maybe you can tell me why suggest that if only one application has a printing problem ... that it must be the fault of that application. When diagnosing a problem, it is important to know whether other applications experience the same problem ... but is abolutely NOT conclusive. It really doesn't matter whether other applications have or don't have this issue. As with all other problems, it is your obligation to prove the source of the problem. I already know of situations where at least one, or even more than one, application fails to print as designed - while other applications print just as expected ... when the problem is not with the application but with the printer driver ... and Quicken is just one of those applications. If said printer does not work with quicken it is the responsibility of the software manufacturer to determine if this is an actual issue, whether by stepping through the issues or using the actual device. This is also a brand new OS which uses many different models which microsoft has not used in production before so there can be a many different issues. It may be the users settings, drivers, services, background applications, software, etc.... And yes it is quite possible that Quicken is using directives that are not compatible with the printer.
Whether it is thousands or hundreds or tens of unhappy customers does not diminish the fact that Intuit is ignoring its loyal customers. It should have its software engineers work out a solution quickly and send it to all registered customers. Why wait until we all leave for Microsoft Money?
Here try this I just did it and I can now print checks and invoices and register. Man I tried everything before this to get my HP Laserjet 1000 to work with Vista, but finally there really is a simple way to get this runing. Method for getting HP Laserjet 1000 to work under VISTA OS 1) Download and extract the latest HP Laserjet 1000 XP drivers (dated 2005) ( automatically extracted to c:lj1000hb ) 2) Then go to... Start /Control Panel /printers .... then Add a Printer 3) A new window comes up ...Next select.... Add a local Printer 4) then check "Use an existing port" and on the right there is an option to choose a port. choose "USB001 (Virtual printer port for USB)" 5) on next window choose HP laserjet 1000 (if in list) or choose disk if not and browse to the files (only browse if the HP lj 1000 is NOT in the list.) and follow the rest it really works.
I'm just_another Quicken_"user".It is not the users responsiblity to determine the exact cause. A tech support tier has the responsibility of doing the actual diagnosis."I didn't say it was the users [sic] responsibility to determine the exact cause._ But if a user states that they know the cause, they'd better be able to provide evidence.
Here's what I did. I bought a new hp laser printer and it worked great on everything but quicken. I have windows vista and quicken 2007. what I did was. 1.I didn't uninstall anything not the printer or quicken.2. Then go to... Start /Control Panel /printers .... then Add a Printer3) A new window comes up ...Next select.... Add a local Printer4) then check "Use an existing port" and on the right there is an option to choose a port.choose "USB001 (Virtual printer port for USB)"5) on next window choose your manufacture of your printer and than on the right choose the model printer.6.than if it asks you choose the file and then all you have to do is follow the instructions from windows vista and when it was all done. I can print every and anything on my computer.
I have followed these post with great interest since I have been a Quicken user for many years and have just assembled a PC on which I plan to run a 64-bit operating system. I recently installed Windows VISTA Home Premium 64-bit on an INTEL D975XBX2 motherboard and then installed Quicken Premier 2008 (Release 6). So far, I have had not printing problems using an EPSON CX3810 multi-function Inkjet with the most recent Windows VISTA 64-bit drivers from EPSON. I don't print checks, but I do print reports. I hope this is of some help.
I use an HP pavilion with Vista Ultimate, an HP 6180 wireless printer. I have no problems with other software and had no problems until I upgraded computer and Quicken. This problem has been going on now for a long time and it is reprehensible that Intuit have not solved it. I use Q for business and we are now in the tax season and I require reports for tax preparation. For whatit is worth, Intuit's Turbotax seems to work without a problem. Well so far anyhow. To work around the reort problem I export to an EXCEL file, format it and then print. It is tedious but it does work.Since we are just the beginning of the Tax year it will behoove me buy Microsoft MONEY and start over. Not a happy solution as I have been a Q user for mmany years.A sad set up altogether.
I have an on site IT company and one of my customers was told by your staff to buy Quicken 2008 to resolve a 'will not print" issue. They bought Q2008 as instructed and the problem remains. All contacts with Intuit support have provided zero help. They have used my company to confirm that they have done everything correctly. To whom should I direct the information to for resolution? FYI - I am an Intuit products user since Q version 2, Quicken & QuickBooks instructor.
I read all of the "fixes", tried them all, spent hours online with India. In the end, he just disconnected from the chat without so much as saying "sorry".So here is my fix. I have a dual boot machine. I went back to XP and installed Quicken Home and Office and was able to print just fine (just in time to go see the tax lady). I have saved the files to a seperate drive from both the XP and Vista version so that I can work in Vista and go over to XP when I need to print - which, by the way, is on a network printer. These guys need to get their act together.
Because support was dropped for my previous version of Quicken, I upgraded to Quicken 2008 Home and Business and now cannot print. I have Windows XP Pro, so it would seem the problem is with Quicken not Windows Vista or XP. Has anyone found a reliable solution yet? I have a PDF driver so I output to that and then print the PDF file.
This is not a print driver issue as I have reconfig. the driver and it still does not print reports from quicken! All other programs I have on my Vista computer prints except QUICKEN. How do we fix this?
I had an on-line chat with a HP technician when I couldn't get Quicken 2008 checks to print on a Photosmart C7280 using Vista Ultimate. The problem was solved by "adding a new printer" (Control Panel), loading the drivers for the Officejet 6500 series, and printing checks using these drivers. The only inconvenience is selecting which default printer to use--I use the 7280/6500 drivers for printing checks an 7280 drivers for everything else. Incidentally, HP told me they have no plans to change the 7280 drivers to print Quicken checks.
How disheartening. My printing problem began when I installed Quicken on my new laptop running Vista Home Premium 32. The technical service people said all problems would end if I update to Quicken 2008. Isn't that cute...I read all of the problems in the forum with people with new versions. HP tech (my printer is Deskjet 842c) tells me that their printer won't work with Quicken. (It worked on my old computer running ME). It seems the problem is the interface between Quicken and Vista and no one wants to own or fix the problem.
I wanted to add my 2 cents to this discussion since a lot of you helped me in solving this problem. I recently purchased a new HP Pavilion D4999T with Quicken Deluxe 2008 already preloaded on Windows Vista 64. I already owned a HP Photosmart 4180 printer. I installed the drivers for the printer and made sure that they worked by printing a test page. My husband called me later that day all upset that he went into Quicken and could not print anything. I than proceeded to spend the next 3 days trying to solve the problem by uninstalling and re installing the print driver along with Microsoft Hotfix and so on. Nothing worked! I noticed that most people who posted had HP computers with HP printers. I figured I had bought the computer and printer form HP so I should start there. My call lasted 2 hours and I spoke with several people, who I had difficulty understanding. They finally told, rather rudely I might add, that this was a Quicken problem not HP. He told me to use my logic and if I could print out of all my other programs and not Quicken, than it was obviously a Quicken problem. Well, I went back to all your posts and decided to try and bring my Canon Pixma MP600 home from work. I uninstalled the HP and installed the Canon and now I can print with NO PROBLEM from Quicken. I guess it is an HP problem after all. I think Intuit has not solved this problem because it is not a generic issue with everyone. It seems very specific to HP. Again, just my 2 cents, but I want to thank you all for your posts because it really did help me to logically solve this problem.
Hmmmm...interesting. Thanks for the post. However, my HP printer works great with Microsoft Money_ it prints checks and all reports fine. My HP printer also works with every single program I have (Word, Excel, Notepad, and hundreds more), except it won't print in Quicken 2008 using VISTA. I don't think its an HP problem. You changed printers to solve your problem_ I changed software.
Like most others I can print w/o limitations from all my other software. The Canon gets good ratings on www.epinions.com but unlike the HP all-in-ones it has no fax capability which I need.It also requires Blue Tooth to operate wirelessly and the HP doesn't.Glad you got your problem fixed. When I finish my taxes I may go MS MONEY after 19 years. It will be easier for me even though I'd rather not give Bill anymore of my $$. Got to wonder why Intuit just doesn't issue a bulletin acknowledging that we're all wrong for the following reasons: ".....".
I also have a HP pavilion dv9000 series 64 bit vista ultimate notebook and for months I couldn't print from quicken 2008. I have a HP 6180 all -in- one on a network connection and once I tried the driver for the 990c it works! THANKS SO MUCH!!! for the info. Also quicken support is a JOKE!! Joel
Now what took so long to figure that out? Back in the old days I never could print with the recommended print driver. Got accustom to being able to do so.Have an HP Photosmart C5280 and an HP 1200 Business Inkjet 1200. Neither will print with the correct driver in 64 bit vista.Got the Photosmart to print from quicken using the HP 990c driver. So folks having problems printing from quicken using vista_ go back and try using some old drivers. If you are old enough to think back 10 years or so, try to remember when the printer came with a setup manual. It would usually give a list of recommended drivers from the newest to the oldest. It would always tell you to try an older version if the newer one would not work.Go to the control panel and install a new printer using and older driver.Using printer setup, direct quicken to use this driver. All of your other programs can still use your default printer setup. How about that!
Thank you!! I installed a separate "printer" using the Deskjet 990c as suggested and now Quicken is printing happily using my same Photosmart C6180, which it thinks is the 990c. Quicken support -- you need to put this in as a solution!!I have Vista Ultimate, Quicken H & B 2008, HP Photosmart C6180.Note: I have also had prior problems printing to PDF using the Quicken PDF driver after upgrading from Quicken H & B 2007 to 2008. I ultimately discovered that I had to change to new fonts for my custom invoices to print in Quicken 2008 but once that was done (had to re-customize EVERY invoice), it works.
I've had this printing problem for over a year now. I've tried everything, but got no help from anybody, UNTIL NOW! I tried using the hp990c driver many times and it never worked for me, UNTIL NOW! I just downloaded the driver again, placed it on the same USB port as my HP Officejet Pro L7580 and tried to print a Bank Reconciliation Report. IT WORKED! A great many thanks to the individual who explained this to us. But, as for Intuit's tech support or just plain support, they stink! If it weren't so much trouble, I'd switch to Money in a minute, but I've invested over 10 years is this Quicken program and it would be too troublesome to move everything. Thanks again for everybody's help.
(To jepollard) You and your "evidence". If you don't want to believe that users with Quicken problems are actually HAVING problems, go play Sherlock Holmes somewhere else!!! Let someone that actuallly WANTS to help do so!
Since I installed Q2005-R6 on my new Vista PC I'm having this type of problem also. It is very specific. I can print anything (including Quicken reports, but not anything check related. When going through the "Check Printer Setup" routine and select "Print Sample" the printer throws a hissy fit and returns a "paper out" error. When trying to print checks I can see the print job going to the printer, but nothing happens. No other problems printing anything from any other application - only Quicken. I did not have these problems when I was running the same version/release under XP, so (at least in my case)the problem must be with Quicken's inability to properly work with Windows Vista.I have also looked through a lot of these messages and have not found any solutions - "Senior" member, Quicken Tech, or otherwise. It appears that Quicken has truly abandoned their customer base - unless you want to pay the $24.95 fee per incident...
Add me to the list. New HP dual core with Vista64 and HP printer. Tried chat support with Quicken. The first one tried. The second, not very hard and the third time, told me to call request call. Called HP and they tried. They found a message board about Helvetica font issue but I think that was on MAC. I have tried to download Helvetica fonts but have not found any for free. Will pay for MS Money before I pay 50 bucks for fonts! I have tried two printers and will tried another. Also am thinking of dual boot with my copy of MS XP Home. I bought HP because of previous good service.
I had same printing issue and tried the Deskjet 500c and it worked. I am using 64 bit vista and HP C7280 printer. I think that it may work with many HP printers and Vista flavors. Thank you for the work around I have also wasted a lot of time on this. Hope it helps someone else
New printer: Lexmark X6570, using windows Vista OS. Just upgraded to Q2008. Message "problems communicating to printer: "Lexmark 6500" Tried all of the suggested fixes to no avail. When I tried to add new printer, my lexmark model was not listed. Any suggestions?
I use Quicken with Vista and it works fine with my HP 2300 LaserJet and my Canon i960, but would not print partial page checks with a Xerox 8560 which I bought (and since returned as it would not "toggle" between color and black & white). It would print 8x11 checks. Xerox tried to blame the problem on Quicken and claimed that the printer was getting the electronic message from Quicken that it was printing full pages instead of partial, but I pointed out that that position made no sense because Quicken worked fiine with two other printers, therefore the problem was that the Xerox driver did not recognize the command it was getting.Xerox finally admitted that the driver was faulty with its inability to "toggle" between color and black&white, but last I heard it was sticking to its guns on the partial page issue. My vendor will re-contact me when Xerox comes out with an appropriate drive.
Well, that is certainly interesting... I too have HP laptop and printer, and Quicken won't print checks or reports. I tried buying a Lexmark printer, and that doesn't work either. Do I go out and buy a Canon now? I still think this is a Quicken problem with Vista. You got luck picking a printer that works...
I have an HP5510 all in one and I can't print checks using Quicken 2008 H & B with Vista Ultimate 64. My solution is to use a dual boot system and run Win XP Pro on a separate hard drive. This way if there are other programs with Vista compatability I simply run them under XP.
et.at.home is a freaking genius. He wrote in Jan :?I installed the drivers for the DeskJet 990c. Now everything works. I am able to print checks and got them alligned properly along with reports. So I hope this will help some others with this problem. All of my other programs are also printing fine from this driver.? This worked like a charm for me. I was pulling my hair out after spending hours on chat with Quicken and HP both. Neither one helped me the way this user from Colorado did. Thanks a million buddy. It?s fixed! If you have an HP Officejet, set up a new printer and use the Deskjet 990 driver.
HP 990c does not substitue for the HP PSC 1350 All-In-One that I have. Anyone have an emulation solution for this printer?HP Pavilion, Microsoft VistaHP PSC 1350 and HP PSC 1310 printersMy only solution is print as pdf format.
Quicken2008 ( and probably 2007 and 2006) will not print on Vista 64 bit. I have had three calls to the Quicken Presidents office and they confirm 2008 will not print on V64bit. Further, they will not provide a date when it will be fixed. The technical people are good, but I can't give u much for the "office of the President". Customer satisfaction must not be important to them
The best answer I know of is FREE electronic bill pay with ING Direct and they are currently paying 3.00% on your ING eChecking account balance with NO fees and NO minimums and automatic overdraft protection up $1000.00 and only charge current interest rate on the amount overdrawn until it is repaid AND you can have as many Savings Accounts, that are paying slightly more eChecking accounts, as you want with NO fees and No minimums. Seriously Check them out. www.ingdirect.com A very satisfied customer.
This is unbelievable. Over a year since the problem was reported and Intuit/Quicken still don't have a fix for the printing issues with Vista x64? I can print fine from every other application to my Photosmart C6250, but Quicken simply barfs. This is CLEARLY a Quicken issue, and it's just sad that Quicken has put forth ZERO effort to resolve the issue. This should be a simple fix, it's not like printing a check is terribly complicated.
I am having the same problem with the Quicken Home and Business. It will not print Invoices with Vista. I have the latest HP drivers and the printer works with all other apps. This is inexcusable for Intuit to have not fixed the problem with printing in Vista. Almost all new computers now come pre-loaded with vista and their software does not work with Vista.
The "990C Driver" fix solved my problem, too. I have a laptop with Vista and a networked OfficeJet K5400. Checks wouldn't print. When I saw the "990C Driver" fix, I just installed another printer (same K5400), but with the 990C driver und named it "Just for Quicken". Works like a charm.
I could print from every program BUT Quicken 2007 Home and Business on my new Vista computer.I read this solution here in this community so I installed the drivers for the DeskJet 990c for my HP Photosmart 6280 All in One and it all works now.To bad we have to do things like this to get the only program I have that doesn't print in vista to print.
I just installed Quicken premier 8 on a new Vista machine. my printer, an HP CP1700, is networked. I can print from all other applications. When I try to print from Quicken, it won't print, and I get a message that it can't find the specified printer on a nonexistent network. I tried marking the printer nonshared, but not only did it not work, but it said it was still attached to the nonexistent network.Thank you
This is a common problem with users of the 64 bit version of Quicken with Vista64, and it has been addressed many times in this forum. The best and most often successful work-around appears to be to be to create a virtual or "fake" printer using the same port as your real printer, but using the driver for a different printer when you create the new printer. .. In my own case, my real printer is an hp officejet 7110 all-in-one. It runs on port DOT4-001, as do most USB printers running Vista. I created a new printer on port DOT4-001 (you can select this port from a drop-down menu when you create your new printer). The new printer I use is the HP DeskJet 500C. Others have had success with the HP DeskJet 550C. DO NOT make this new printer the default printer! Now start Quicken and in the printer setups for printing check and printing reports, select your new printer from the pop-up menu at the top of the settings page. Try printing a test check on a full page of checks. If it works, you're all set! If not, delete the new printer and try another. Success has been reported with the HP LaserJet IV (it prints for me, but the output is gibberish), the HP LaserJet III, and generic HP. I'm sure you can find something that will work! Good luck!
That's all well and good, but.............Will I be able to use the wireless feature on my hp 7280 or the duplex mode? I've asked this question before but it's always ignorned.I manage by printing to .pdf.You'd think after a year of this that Intuit would take pity on their customers ($$$) and add a patch or some fix. It's my only print problem on Vista.
Logic tells me that if those features are not features in the substitute printer software, then it's not going to work. I have enough things to keep me busy.I now investigate before I buy. If it doesn't state categorically that it works with Windows Vista/ Vista 64 bit platform,I go elsewhere.I recently returned a Palm Centro Smartphone because the system requirements state that it only works with Vista 32 bit. Sprint couldn't tell me, but I uncovered it on a forum. Never opened the software.Blavckberry says it runs on Vista 64 bit. Maybe. After buying software for 25 years I've become a hardheaded skeptic.
I have the same symptoms for my Vista Home Premium, Q2008 for Home & Business, HP C7280. I laughed when I read the note that things had improved - now the paper is just causing a jam.I have advanced to another failed attempt. I converted away from a network attachment to printer cable attach. I no longer get a paper jam. Now I wait several minutes and get a blank page. Shortly thereafter, my printer informs me that the job was cancelled. It seems like the advice on this forum appeases some. But most of us continue to wait.....jcA follow-up: I was able to print by using pdf995 as my printer, saving the file as a .pdf, launching Adobe, and printing the file from Adobe. This should be a suitable workaround until Quicken develops a fix.
It ain't going to happen. They've known about it for almost a year. I wrote the CEO and got nothing. The Q apologists on this forum will tell you it's your responsibility to find a fix, as if you didn't pay for a working product.
My setup is the same as danimal004 posted on 12/30/07 -- I was getting a paper jam every time I tried to print on Quicken Deluxe 08, though all other apps printed fine by my c7280. I added the 990c driver per danimal004's post and the problem was instantly resolved. (I gave the "new printer" - really my c7280 with the 990c driver) a different name so that I could use the regular drive with all other apps. Working fine now.
Thank god for small things: I can print this forum from my new Vista laptop to my HP Photosmart C7180 All in One. At least I can read it while I labor for my third day trying to print checks! What could be so hard for Intuit? Okay, it's a wireless printer through what is now a very common home network configuration. If I can't get this going pretty soon, I'm going to become a very vocal activist for the downfall of Intuit. Who do they think they are wasting so much of my VERY VALUABLE time?
Ha Ha! It worked!!!!! I used to have a 990c too! Now it's at my daughter's in Vegas. There ought to be a notice in Quicken through the updates. Is it just me, or should this forum come up in reverse order, with the latest posts first? There was really no option to go away from Quicken...I use QB for my business too, and have been a Controller in a past life. I KNOW how rediculously complicated it can get.:)
You'll have to get in line.I've only been using Q since 1989.They used to be very friendly and helpful. An explanation as to why they can't or won't fix it would help.Guess when you're No.1, you get complacent and maybe arrogant.Sad.
Fellow Quicken users need to realize that sales of Quicken only represent about ten percent of Intuit's income according to their 10-K report to the Securities Exchange Commission for the past fiscal year. Problems with Quicken printing only affect the purchasers that actually use Quicken on a regular basis and those who try to use it as it as a business tool should be using Intuit's business products, I.E. Quickbooks & Etc.. It is a pretty straight forward business decision about where you invest resources to maximize return on investment. Frustrated Quicken users might want check out YNAB with Google (YNAB Means You Need A Budget).
I see from your biog that you run Windows XP.When you run Windows Vista and Premier 2008 on a daily basis and you find a real solution, please print it here. I'd appreciate it and I imagine so would the other users with the problem.
To All the Bazillions of quicken users who can't print in Vista:Send a communication to Intuit saying we will all purchase Microsoft Money software instead if Inutit doesn't fix this problem in one week. I'm serious. Don't buy from Intuit again.
I had a bought a new computer using Vista 64 bit from HP as well as an HP 5700 printer. Unfortunately, I had the same problems printing checks from Quicken as everyone else has. I tried using the 990 driver but it did not work for me. I called HP Support for Printers and got someone who seemed both knowledgeable and working in the US:) She tried to be helpful and consulted with others in her area, but could neither come up with a solution nor was familiar with using alternative drivers to fool Quicken. Finally, based on a couple of things I had seen on this foruma as well as in a some other places about Canon printers working with 64 bit, I went out and bought a Canon Pixma MX310. I hooked it up and it printed the checks without any problems! So since the I still had the option of returning the HP Printer for a refund, that's what I did.
I have installed an old HP print driver for my 4 in 1 printer (not the intended driver) and it has been working fine ever since. I am not in front of my printer or at that vista based computer, so i can not give you the exact information, but it did the trick. the other work around was to print to a PDF and then print the PDF, cumbersome but it worked. I will add that I got the old print drive answer from this thread. Dan
It took three days to finally find the workaround for Vista 64 bit after I bought this computer. Very frustrating, but the 990 driver works on my C7180 Photosmart. Checks, reconciliation reports, etc. My neat, fast, compact Konica Minolta laser is sitting on the floor, however, dead to me. If you need me to find it in the 'archives', let me know. It's not as hard as it sounds.Internet Explorer stops working frequently as well, so I may give it up for Firefox, but that's no where near as traumatic as switching from Quicken to Money after all these years! I'm afraid of new banking interfaces, bringing over all the accounts and reminders, etc. That might take more than the three days I already invested on the printer issue.Other than that, I like Vista, and want to stay up to date. I want MS to keep innovating and upgrading to stimulate creativity and improve efficiency. I just think they need to have better QC on the coders...maybe hire people with more experience than those Jr High hacks. And Intuit needs to keep their arms around the changes. If an old driver works, there must be a pretty simple patch for the rest of the printers. Come on, this is not rocket science...or is it?
First do not update to latest update! This is some of the problem. Re-install with out update. 1)Follow quickens instructions for removing quicken and pritner information. 2) Re-install do not install latest update.3) If still does not work you may have to emulate your printer. see my converstaion with hp. If I knew where you were, I'd add you to my will. I just wasted 3 hours of my life I'll never get back trying to print with Quicken and Vista. I printed your dialog and followed the instructions, which worked like a charm. I wasn't sure it would as I have a wireless printer, but it did. Thanks for posting the solution.....and shame on Quicken for ignoring printing problems on their product and customer support page. That would have saved me 2 1/2 hours.
Since your default printer is now the Hp990 (non wireless enabled) does your wireless printer function as a wireless device?Mine also has duplex which the 990 doesn't.I have an HP 7280 (wireless) and have been reluctant to do this substitution for fear of losing these functions.
Thanks so very much for your posting! I was able to emulate my printer as your dialog instructed, problem solved! I use the print checks and reports function regularly for both home and business use, and I am finally back on track. I appreciate this forum since I got no help from the Quicken support folks. Thanks again!
I have an HP Officejet Pro l7580 with duplex printing. I also used the 990c emulation and have no problems printing wireless and it doesn't affect my duplex printing, although I don't know what you would want to print on both sides from Quicken or Quickbooks.
I just changed to a new PC with Vista and added an HP Photosmart C7250 all in one. Reports from Quicken only print first page and not second and I also cannot print checks. Have you had any luck correcting your problem? What can I do? Thanks for helping!
You have no account registers that are longer than one page? I have many reports that I print that can get to 4 or 5 pages. Should I waste paper and print on only one side?I don't understand the comment.
I have the exact same problem. Also have a brand new HP C7280 printer which jams everytime I try to print invoices with Quicken. I am running Vista Home Premium also. I have to save to pdf file to get it to work without jamming. Had an older printer which was a problem also to print from Quicken using Vista. It just printed blank pages. This should have been fixed by now and it is inexcusable to have this kind of problem for this long and keep selling the software without proper notice of faulty issues. Is their any fix?
Some have been successful by installing as a DJ 990, but will all the features that we paid for with the C7280 work properly. It's a workaround offered by a user not INTUIT!This issue is over a year old and is related to Vista OS.There are some Intuit apologists that think it's the responsibility of the customer to work out the problem and to 'sit down and shut up'. If the A/C system in their new car wouldn't function properly I wonder what they'd do?
I've got a C7180 also, and I can't get it to print wireless or wired. They "spool" and I can't even delete them without running "services.msc" and stopping and starting the Print Spooler. So not only will it not print, is blocks my other programs from prining, until stop/start the Print Spooler
Quiken will not print to either of my HP printers. Network 7280 all in one just jams paper. Ok, so thier is a drive fix 990C, but I can not find any post that explains where is get driver and how to install so that I can finally print. Can someone point me to the answer? Quicken help was no help. Frustrated,
I think you have to go to the HP web site and click on support and download and look for the latest 990c install. That's where I'd look first. i've gotten the 2610 and 7280 downloads but not an old one like the 990. You can set your Quicken to print to the .pdf file and then print the Quicken file in the .pdf format. That's what I do.
I got a new computer with Vista and reinstalled Quicken basic 2007. It wouldn't print on my HP Photosmart C6280. It either tries to print and jams, or doesn't print at all. The printer shows up as being on "NE01" but we don't have it on a network. I tried to reinstall and got a message that said a dll file was missing. It just keeps getting worse!
What Vista do you have and is it 32 bit or 64 bit?Try a 6280 download and install from HP for Vista computers, Then try to reinsatall quicken. Be sure to uninstall the printer and Quicken using the control panel, before reinstalling.Use "print to PDF file". Then print out the PDF Quicken file you just created. It works for me.I have Quicken Premier 2008 and Vista Ultimate 64 bit.
I am using a HP Officejet K5400 with a HP Pavilion a6333w. Printer is USB connected to the computer. SW is Quicken 2008 Deluxe and MS Vista. It prints everything, with one exception (which is why I'm on this site looking). I ask for multiple copies of a report and I get only one. Hope this helps. Quicken obviously doesn't care about support
I have the same problem with my Officejet Pro L7780. What I have done for a work around is to settings to "Print Direct to Printer" and not "Print to Que". This works for me but when printing other jobs you may need to reset your settings back to "Print to que." You can find this under your printer properties then Advanced. Hope this helps everyone.
How are you printing to pdf? That's the part I cannot do. I have been around and around with Quicken...installing print drivers, reinstalling the whole SW, etc. I cannot print to pdf. Everything prints just fine to my regular printer.(running Vista 64, never had problem before this)
Go to any report.Click on PRINTA window will appear. At the top will be the choice for (which) Printer.Click on the circle and scroll it to Quicken PDF printer on LPT 1 and click PRINT at the bottom of the window. You'll get a window to name the report. You'll find it in your Adobe PDF folder. Really print it to paper from there. There's also a box marked EXPORT so you can do that also.
I found a page in the Quicken support that allowed my HP Officejet Pro L7700 to print. "Printer emulation" worked. That means adding a printer, letting the installation find your printer but then selecting an earlier HP Officejet Pro from the printer lists already in Vista. The support page walks you through it. It worked!!!
I have spent HOURS and HOURS trying to print to no avail -- and more wasted hours with Quicken support in India who was absolutely no help. But, I have 2 questions. First, does anyone know of a printer that "emulates" an HP 5610xi? I've tried all the obvious ones (990c, etc., and nothing happens -- it just spools forever). And, second, I can print to PDF. But, the checks don't align properly. The top check (on a page of 3) is fine. The middle check prints too high. The bottom check prints higher still. I know you can align checks, but the function aligns all the checks equally. I can't figure out how to align just the two bottom checks. The only option now is to print each check individually -- what a pain.
I have an H P computer with Windows Vista with 64 bit system_ I also have AN Photosmart 8250 Printer, the Printer work good in all other programs But it will NOT print anything in my Quicken Deluxe 2008.Can someone help me?
I have a Vista 64 bit Ultimate system. The only way to print with quicken is to download and install the Bullzip PDF printer and print to that. Nothing else works -- I have been complaining to Intuit for a year on this. I have ordered Quicken 2009 and am curious to see if they have fixed this problem.
Exact same situation and computer as you.Only one difference: I'm not about give Intuit any more money for a defective product. You'll tell us maybe? If indeed 2009 works properly then they deserve a big black eye for not releasing a fix as soon as it was available.
A big Thank You to all who contributed. Found this forum after not being able to print to a HP J6480 from a new HP notebook with Vista 64 bit and desperately searching for a solution. Used the 990 c driver and finally works. Have been a faithful user of Quicken for many years but will definitely not upgrade until Intuit addresses some of these problems. Thanks again.
"Have been a faithful user of Quicken for many years but will definitely not upgrade until Intuit addresses some of these problems."Printer driver problems are the responsibility of the printer manufacturer, not Intuit.
I'm sorry, but I would have to disagree with the contributor who wrote that it is the role of the printer manufacturer to resolve the problem. My printer prints perfectly with every other program I've loaded onto Vista -- including a very old version of Word and WordPerfect. The ONLY problem I have is with Quicken. So, the printer drivers work perfectly well -- Quicken worked perfectly well with this printer on XP -- so the problem is with Quicken, not with HP. Too many people have had printing problems with too many different types of printers on Vista. Quicken needs to design a program for Vista.
When you install your Quicken 2008 on a Vista 64 bit computer, and tell us you've found a solution that requires no change to Quicken, I'll listen. I await your non Intuit solution. But the most important thing is even with all of the dissatisfied customers, Intuit refuses to even recognize that there MAY be a problem. Quicken since 1989 (Dos Ver 3) but no more quicken for me.
I am handicap and I need to write my check with my computer. I used the Quicken software for 16 years. Ever had any problems. Until now with your Quicken deluxe 2008 for windowsI have an H P computer with Windows Vista with 64 bit system_ I also have a Photosmart 8250 Printer, the Printer work good in all other programs But it will NOT print anything in my Quicken Deluxe 2008.Can someone help me?I already asked HP they are telling me the problem is with the QUICKEN DELUXE 2008 SOFTWARE. Not with HPQuicken.com suport. Said that It?s a Microsoft program that started in 2005 I tried to do what said would but still no luck.I would like anyone to help me.
Create a new printer in Windows (you can name it Quicken Printer)._ Select the HP 990c as the printer driver._ Select that newly created printer in Quicken as your printer to use for reports and checks. It should work.
Sorry -- but the 900C printer driver is not an option under Vista. I've tried the 990C and various other drivers and none of them work!!! The problem is with Quicken!!!!!!!!! And, remarkably, Quicken 2009 was designed for XP, although they say it will work on Vista. Why do you design new software for an old operating system?
Try the HP 990c emulation, not the 900c. I've got an hp Officejet Pro L7580, an HP dv9000 Laptop, and Quicken 2007 and everything prints. Setup the new 990c on you main printer port and call it "For Quicken Only." Mine all works just fine now.
Go to Add Hardware, select Add Printer, select HP as the manufacturer and look for the "hp deskjet 990c." Select the same port that your regular printer is on. This should work. It does on my HP Laptop with Vista Ultimate 64 bit. Good luck!
I've been working with this problem for 4 days and you solved it for me! I have a HP Office Jet J6450 All-in-One and could not get it to print in Quicken 2008 or 2009. I have since returned 2009 and reverted back to 2008. I followed your instructions and installed the HP990c and was able to print for the first time.I have a Vista 64 bit system. I don't print checks so I have no idea if this solution would work for those of you that do.....but I do know it solved a huge headache for me!
Maybe you should ask yourself: Why do I have to write a paper check? I have been using ING Direct's FREE electric orange "https://secure.ingdirect.com/" since February 2007 to pay business online, send paper checks, and send electric checks with absolutely no problems. ING Direct offers FREE checking (but you do not have paper checks (NO Checkbook)). They are currently paying slightly less than 2% on your checking account balance. If you have a eChecking account you get a FREE debit card and free ATM withdrawals at all "AllPoint" ATM's. So far even when we travel in the U.S. there has been a AllPoints ATM, usually within walking distance of where we were staying. You also have $1000 of automatic overdraft protection and you can have as many savings accounts as you want that pay 3.00% currently. I have been an ING Direct customer since January 2001 and I have NEVER paid them anything. I.E. no fees and NO minimums. Check'em Out! Brad Hull P.S. I am not an ING employee, just a very satisfied customer.
I don't know about the rest of you people, but I have spent way too much time on problems with this program. First the Billminder gadget didn't work and still don't. Now I can't print anything direct from Quicken. I didn't by a new computer to put "miles on it" trying to fix things that shouldn't be broke. I'll wait 'till the new year for a fix and if it don't come, bye, bye.

I just converted to Windows Vista Ultimate x64 and have discovered the check printing problem in Quicken Premier 2009 and have resolved it using the HP 990C emulation. However, I would like to comment on those posts that claim Intuit has no responsibility to fix this issue. I am not a programmer, but wouldn't the fact that all my other programs, including QuickBooks 2008, use the same printer driver successfully indicate the problem belongs to Intuit and not to Microsoft or HP?

I've tried the 990C and the 500C. I also called HP and had a long talk with them about other compatible drivers, and they told me that there were no other compatible drivers if these didn't work. I've spent HOURS AND HOURS on this. My only option is to print each check separately to a PDF file and then print that file. I can't even print 3 checks at once (I use 3 checks-per-page checks) because the Quicken PDF printer does not align the second and third check properly and there is no alignment option for individual parts of the page, only for the page as a whole. ANY help would be appreciated, but I am afraid I have given up. I tried Quicken 2009 and the print job still keeps spooling and nothing ever happens.

I just switched to an HP Pavilion dv6933cl Notebook and have been going crazy trying to get my Quicken reports to print. The paper loads and seems like it will print and then it jams. The printer worked for anything else I wanted to print from this new computer. The printer is an HP Photosmart C7280 All-in-One - it has worked just fine with my old laptop (Compaq Presario). I did everything as instructed here from sraab2453 - and the reports and checks printed perfectly (finally)!!!! I downloaded the Deskjet 990c. The only thing I can add is that you don't have to choose the printer each time you make a report (you can't even choose for the checks) - but to change the printer from the File/Printer Setup in Quicken. The Photosmart C7280 is still the default computer for all other documents. I spent hours on hold with HP this morning and was told after about 10 minutes with the tech that the problem is not with the printer but with Quicken since it worked with everything else.

I have an HP 5610xi all-in-one printer. I tried both the 990C and 500C -- no luck. I called HP and talked to them for ages -- and tried some things with them -- nothing worked. They also told me that no other printer drivers would work -- although I went through the list and tried a couple just for fun (and none worked -- I tried the 4200 and a couple of others). I contacted HP again this week and asked them to email me specific instructions on how to emulate a printer just in case I had done it incorrectly. No luck.I contacted Quicken and they were truly worthless, I'm afraid. I tried Quicken 2006 (my original program), 2008 (which I bought and returned -- no change), and 2009 (which I had hoped would work -- and no difference -- Quicken credited me with the cost). All other programs work perfectly with the printer, including an old version of WordPerfect. I can print quicken to a PDF file and then print to the HP from that, but I must print it one check at a time because Quicken doesn't align the 3 checks-per-page properly. The top check prints okay, but the second check is too high and the third check is higher still. The alignment feature in Quicken only aligns the WHOLE page, not specific portions of a page. So, I print each check to PDF now, and then print that one check. It's a pain, but at least it works. (And, yes, I have checks designed for Quicken -- they printed perfectly in XP with this same printer.)I tried checking and unchecking all those boxes you mentioned -- every conceivable configuration -- and nothing happens at all then. I just tried it again, and the printer box says it's printing (rather than spooling), but nothing happens. I even tried all different print options -- grayscale, color, etc., and they didn't make a difference. The new Quicken 2009 says very specifically that it will work with all printers that work with Vista. The 5610 driver is clearly listed in Vista -- but it will not work with it. I would appreciate any help, but I've already spent many frustrated hours on this and have pretty much given up. Thank you anyway.

The problem is not HP or VIsta its INTUIT.Fact is they have developers who are incapable of fixing a minor problem ...The problem is on their end has nothing to do with Vista or HP products, I am having the same problem on neither vista or HP related.I figure I will be dumping the pdf printer in favor of other pdf print choices that have always worked. In fact i will likely be using the same pdf printer I had in XP on non-Quicken machines. It was working though initially, but I made no changes of any kind in 3 weeks and it stopped working 1 week ago.SO its confirmed that its Intuit. Its funny they come so close to losing their customers and will likely fix it after me & others go to alternative solutions. That makes 3 items that I used to use QUICKEN for that are now being done with non-quicken product. If I get to where the investment or register related stopps to work._it will be time to dump the product as a whole.

So I have had to handle her banking via web instead of quicken. So in her case its a bank problem and not quicken.

Now up till 3 weeks all ok..was even able to print exgternally to QUICKEN. Ie_ I even pdf'd a 25 paqe trust agreement with it.But as of last week it now gives error -41 and all I find are -24 and -30 errors.I am at the moment going to go ahead and get other pdf printer choices and there are some really good ones to replace quicken on that. But per the cost of upgrading from 2007 to 2009 ... I am also going to test trial MS MONEY.I hate doing that, but quicken is finally becoming more of a problem of either capabilities or costs.I refuse to pay $100 for a upgrade.Ive already paid nearly $1500 for all the various quicken versions and its no longer worth even 1/5 of that.Hell, if I had to do that with WINDOWs I would have gone mac or Linux years ago.Fortunately Im still on OFFICE 2003 and using XP pro on some machines (not my newest)...and linux on some very very old pc's.Btw, its Bullzip pdf printer..._FREE& so far it works on litterally every windows OS i have had.Vista, XP ,,, it does work on W2k.Works just fine...and if I remember is a bit nicer though not as clean as quickens pdf printer.I could care less about a feature (pdf printer) that wont work outside its main pgm.If outlook calendar was not accessable externally I would stop using outlook in total...fortunately the usual tricks work there.Since the iniuit website didnt seem to have a 'download solution to the pdf printer, and I wasnt going to the cd to chk for a option there... All thats left is to go ahead and test MS MONEY for a future likely move to dump QUICKEN after 15+ years.MS Money is cheaper and will test to see how it compares..I except it will fail on features, so for now I wont switch. But if i find that the trial does 100%, I might switch anyway if I can figure out what its upgrade b.s is like. I fully accept that upgrades are a cost, but I am not going ot pay nearly full price for a upgrade path for a non-critical application (OS wise) .. QUICKEN is at the moment my #1 use product and is very critical to my personal finances & investments and I am 100% online with billpay or quicken and havent written a paper chk in years except for Aldai and 1-2 vendors (at most 10 chks a year). And use debit card at all other times.
I have two printers neither one will print on Quicken. The printers are HP psc 1315xi and HP psc 1210xi. AQ printer on loan to me (Deskjet 932c) prints just fine. All of the printers work with all other application, the only problem is with Quicken. I have tried everything that Intuit has suggested but nothing has helped. I really need help!
I'm beginning to think that Intuit is trying to drive it's users over to Money. I'm running Vista (64) on an HP Pavilion. I've tried most of the suggested fixes in the forum. Either they didn't work at all or they didn't solve all of the printer problems I'm having with Quicken (basically, I can't print anything from Quicken). And some of the suggested fixes "unfixed" my printer (HP C3180) so that it wouldn't print ANYTHING, and I had to uninstall and re-install the printer. I installed the the printer with the new installation disc from HP which includes an up to date driver. Why the heck should I have to emulate another printer to get my printer to half-way work? I would really like a true "fix" rather than a patch that sorta works. I'd like to hear some comments from folks who want a REAL fix.
Quote:" quicken won't print in windows vista: I'm beginning to think that Intuit is trying to drive it's users over to..."It's very difficult to contact Intuit in the US to talk to someone corporate to complain. But I've sent several emails complaining about this. I also have an HP Pavilion and I have an HP 5610xi printer. However, I did temporarily solve the problem. My daughter no longer needed her old HP K80xi printer so she gave it to me and Quicken appears to print perfectly on it. So I have both printers set up now. What a waste of time. I probably spent 30-40 hours trying to get Quicken to print with my other printer. And, none of the "emulations" worked either with the 5610xi. And, Quicken 2009 doesn't work any better, so don't waste your money upgrading.

But then he wasn't running 2008 Premier with 64 bit Vista. True enough.Often Intuit is blaming the problems on the user, when the reality is that its their app.Example_ the pdf printer deal.Instead of trying to fix what was a nice quicken deal for me... since I had trouble finding a Intuit solution...I went and got a non-Quicken answer.Ie_ the point is that till 3 weeks ago the pdf printer deal for me was fully usuable for a long long time ...even externally to QuICKEN.If I get to where the investment or chkbook part of what I use is no longer working..I will go ot MS MOney... I dont want to...as I too am a 20 year user of QUICKEN.As a developer myself, I know full well that some of these printer related problems are Intuit. Its obvious that their people dont know what they are doing or dont have sufficent info to give the 'right' answer. The proper answer is that any product that cannot use the default printer_ it will nearly always be the product and not the printer.Especially if quicken is the only problem...and all other apps have no problem with printer. If the printer has issues with other apps then it could be printer. But when QUICKEN is litterally the only app with problem...its QUICKEN.I would say that_ that portion of the developement team needs to be replace or even fired. As a developer myself of AMIGA based quicken-similar products (then I almost had a quicken compatiable product at one point back then)..... I know full well what it takes.

Good evening - I have installed Quicken 2001 successfully from an XP SP2 PC to a brand new Vista SP1 PC - 64 bit application. I have successfully imported the data from one PC to another. The problem is printing. Seems Quicken 2001 does not allow me to print documents previously saved in Quicken 2001. I have reviewed the discussions here and have done the following: (1) I have tried to use another printer to "fake" out Vista. The printer I tried was HP Deskjet 990C. (2) This looked like it was going to work as I was successfully able to print out an alignment print on the HP printer. (3) The new printer is an HP Deskjet F4280. It works just fine in all other programs. (4) The F4280 is on a DOT_4 port. (5) I tried the 990C on the virtual USB as well as the LPT1 and nothing. I really need to be able to get this to work as soon as possible for a client. Any information any of you folks can provide me will be most appreciated. Cordially, Peggy DaValt

Amazing. Sometimes changing printer drivers fixes the problem. Sometimes turning off the print spooler fixes the problem. Sometimes nothing works. Intuit should fix their software. Their customers should not have to put up with this. At a minimum, Intuit needs to supply a free 800 telephone number for Quicken support.

Bought a new HP C6380 Printer. Wouldn't print checks. Bought 2009 upgrade version of Quicken Deluxe, thinking that might solve problem. Still running on Vista. 2009 version no better than 2007 version... still no printing. Finally tried shutting off printer spooling option - instead now goes directly to printer. #1 way to eliminate quicken print issues is to install your own pdf driver for that part. But also otherwise use a printer you have installed already on vista.I use vista 64 & pc is hp, 1 printer is hp and another isnt.No problems in printing at all except for pdf's.I chose to eliminate pdf issue by installing a non-intuit freebie... and its actaully better quality and more usefull anyway. If you are having printing problems...1. first check if you have other issues with printer.2. Then replace the pdf deal with another.Despite early comments contradicting my comments, when only one product among thousands has a print problem it is usually litteraly that app's problem.
as a developer myself, I find it ludicrous that quicken would have problems printing (excluding the check stuff since i never print checks and in fact do nearly all finances electronically. At most write mayabe 1 paper check per month.Other than the chk write stuff, there should be zero problems in printing as most of the printing code one would use is very very generic and basic and requires no fancy programming. And if its via visual studio (or even C++) or similar there are plenty of code snippets to copy to use to test with...Ive actaully used some of these snippets myself, even in my own attempt at a checkbook pgm. Now, there is also similar for check writing, but Im not as aware on those.

My printers are on a Wireless print server, so I may have an effect on my situation. But the only thing I could guess about why your printers aren't working is because the install did not set things up correctly. If you check the website below, it may give you some suggestions about how to uninstall and reinstall, after you have update 4.http://members.shaw.ca/bsanders/Glossary.htmWhat I would try is to open the printers dialogue, delete your printer. Go to File, Run as Admin, and Properties. Drivers tab and delete the drivers for that printer.I would then reboot to make sure the NE: numbers had updated. Now, add a new printer using the Vista drivers. If your printer is not listed, click on the Windows update button. Make sure and look under HP and Hewlett-Packard and go through the entire list since they may be listed out of order. If you can't find a driver for your printer, try one from the HP site. Also try running Quicken as Administrator to see if it makes any difference.Maybe it has something to do with the multifunction printers, I don't know. Sorry I can't give you an exact procedure, but sometimes I take various paths to find a solution and don't know which one exactly worked. Before buying that shining new 09 version, I did some checking. The problem evidently is that back around 2000 AD Microsoft gods briefly descended to Earth and handed down some rules. Either by defiance, but more likely due to ambiguity of the rules, Quicken evidently did not comply 100%. I don't know what their "infraction" was, it could even be that they had to do what they did to get around some weakness in Windows. The fact remains that single Quicken version worked great in all Windows versions until Vista arrived. This is like blaming the guy who did not clear dry brush around his house one year, and setting free the one who threw the burning matches. From a different perspective, that $40 Quicken worked for you and me great for many years. How often did it give you the blue screen? Not once. Now, how much did you spend on OS "upgrades" during that same time? Win98, Win2k, WinXP, Win Vista, each at $200 or so, and that same $40 Quicken worked through all of them. Why in the world would you want to abandon Quicken and subscribe to what .... MS Money ?????If you believe that you can get MS to fix anything at all, there are millions of people with a very, very long list for you to forward.
